About the 1915 Stuart Bank Teller’s Window in the Ashley Gang Exhibit
While John Ashley and his gang were accused of robbing numerous banks throughout Florida, they robbed the Bank of Stuart twice! On February 23, 1915, the Ashley Gang made off with nearly $5,000 including a bag containing $30 in pennies. On May 12, 1922, it was robbed again! The robbers escaped with several bags of cash, but they were all soon captured and jailed. This bank teller’s window is from the original bank.
