Following The Cow Creek Trail

WITH AUTHOR GREGORY ENNS
Step into the fascinating history of Florida’s Treasure Coast with author and historian Gregory Enns, as he takes you along the Cow Creek Trail and explores the remarkable people, places, and stories that shaped this unique corner of Florida.
Enns opens a window into Florida and Treasure Coast history through his research on Cow Creek Ranch, located on the border of St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. The land has a history stretching back thousands of years—from the days when mastodons and mammoths roamed Florida, to the Ais people, who used the area for seasonal hunting.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the region became home to members of the Seminole Tribe known as the Cow Creeks, including Polly Parker, considered the Evangeline of the tribe. Seminoles and cattlemen, including ranch owner Frank Raulerson, coexisted across the open range until fences began changing the landscape.
Enns will also share the fascinating story of cattle in Florida and how early ranches such as Cow Creek came to be.
His presentation draws from Cow Creek Chronicles, which was released by the University Press of Florida in October 2025.
