Water/Ways

TOUCH, SEE, LISTEN & LEARN

August 31 through November 10, 2024

Water/Ways impactful exhibit takes a deep look at this essential component of life on our planet, which powers the environment’s engine, impacts climate and helps shape and sculpt the landscape. There is a stunning display of photographs, text panels, and objects as well as interactive touchscreens and a touchable model of a watershed to demostrate how we, and all living creatures, rely on water for health, hydration, food supplies, and hygiene.

Water/Ways explores the relationship between people and water. It explores the centrality of water in our lives including its effect on the environment and climate, its practical role in agriculture and economic planning, and its impact on culture and spirituality.

EXHIBIT INCLUDES:

Five free-standing structures ranging in size from 5’ to 14’ wide with graphic and text panels
Video monitor
3 mechanical interactives
2 built-in cases with permanently mounted objects, and 4 flip books
2 multimedia kiosks and computers

We are connected to water in ways we may not always realize. And, since water is a shared resource, water connects everyone. With compelling text, imagery, interactives, and videos, Water/Ways reveals the central nature of water in our lives!

Water/Ways was developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. It was inspired by an exhibition organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (www.amnh.org), and the Science Museum of Minnesota, St. Paul (www.smm.org), in collaboration with Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland; The Field Museum, Chicago; Instituto Sangari, Sao Paulo, Brazil; National Museum of Australia, Canberra; Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada; San Diego Natural History Museum; and Science Centre Singapore with PUB Singapore.
