History of the Everglades
October 12 from 7 PM – 8:30 PM
Join John Nelson as he presents the history of the Florida Everglades through the use of historical images and other time period documents. From the earliest years of statehood, the Everglades was viewed as nothing more than a swamp infested wasteland. For this reason, the Everglades came under constant attack from settlers, land developers, and politicians as everyone had only one goal in mind, drain the swamp and turn it into “Productive” land.
With hundreds of thousands of acres drained and turned into areas such as the Everglades Agricultural Area, animals such as the Florida Panther, and most of the wading birds came under constant and devastating attack. John’s research will provide you with a historical timeline of the Everglades from the mid 1800’s until now.
