On the Bicycle: Meditations and Innovations
On the Bicycle: Meditations and Innovations from the Ice Age to American Renaissance
Join Dustin Pappas, Ph.D.—educator, writer, and four-time RAGBRAI rider—for a fascinating ride through time. This dynamic lecture explores the origins, cultural impact, and mechanical innovations of the bicycle from prehistoric inspiration to its pivotal role in the American Renaissance.
Using highlights from the Elliott Museum’s collection, Dr. Pappas offers a “crash course” in how bicycles shaped and were shaped by the world around them, capturing the enthusiasm of early riders and the enduring allure of two-wheeled travel.
Dr. Pappas, a volunteer at the Elliott since 2016, holds a doctorate in Education from Florida Atlantic University and has led programs in school safety, juvenile justice, and international education.
Whether you’re a casual rider or a history buff, this is a journey you won’t want to miss!
