Wild About Art: The Story of the Society of Animal Artists

Thursday, December 17 | 2:00 PM

Discover the fascinating world of animal art with Renee Bemis, president of the Society of Animal Artists (SAA), for an engaging look at the organization’s rich history, its influence on the art world, and the extraordinary creativity behind bringing the animal kingdom to life through art.

With more than 30 years of service on the SAA board, including 12 years as president, Renee offers a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on the organization’s evolution, its artists, and its enduring commitment to celebrating wildlife through artistic expression.

A professional artist for 40 years, Renee has built an impressive career as an award-winning sculptor whose monumental public works can be found at universities, hospitals, libraries, parks, and other locations. Her notable creations include Returning on the Wings of Peace, a 16-foot sculpture honoring veterans, and a memorial to the 9/11 emergency responders incorporating steel from the World Trade Center’s North Tower. Her sculptures have been acquired for museum permanent collections and are held in private collections around the world.

In addition to her artistic accomplishments, Renee is a distinguished member of several prestigious art organizations, including the American Society of Marine Artists, the American Artists Professional League, and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.
