This 1928 Ford Pick-Up Hunting Buggy was often called a “Palmetto Jumper” or “Dog Car”. The Buggy started as a Model “A” Ford Pick-Up and was modified to fit the owner’s needs. This Buggy has bucket seats on the roof to accommodate shooters and cages behind the cab for two to four hunting dogs. Perched on the roof, the shooters would direct the driver on which way to turn through a series of thumps on the roof. Dogs were let out two at a time and would run ahead on either side of the buggy. This vehicle was built and owned by Judge Harry Dyer. Judge Dyer was a Stuart native, born October 1, 1910. Receiving his law degree from the University of Florida in 1937, he was the first Stuart native to practice law in his hometown.
