We are the lucky stewards of a collection of works by Roger Vail.
There are 8 paintings in total and when I first began inventorying the art collection, I immediately knew they were something special! His works have not been on display here as far as I can tell since the new building was completed at the very least. The last reference I can find of them being shown here was in 1997.
I scanned the newspaper articles we have on Roger and used a program to transcribe the text. As these clippings date from as early as 1965, they are in fragile condition.
There are distinct ties to the Stuart area, his mother Dorothy Mosier Brownlee was a resident of Port Salerno and was his reason for remaining in our area periodically throughout all his global travels. Janet Hutchinson was mentioned in his will as his first choice to oversee the sale of any remaining works. We have 8 of his pieces, and they are currently hung up in curatorial.
